Our department provides emergency services to the community of Kansas City, Kansas, which spans approximately 125 square miles with over 330 sworn officers serving a population of approximately 150,000 citizens and 10 million visitors per year.

Chief of Police

Chief Karl Oakman comes to KCK from the Kansas City, Missouri police department where he was a Deputy Chief. He’d been with KCPD for 30 years. Oakman attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where he played football. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and government from Columbia College.
