City ordinance requires that all residential, non-profit, and business alarm systems be registered with the KCKPD to minimize and manage false alarms. There is no fee for an alarm permit if the application is submitted within 10 days of installation or conversion of the alarm system. After 10 days, a $25 late fee will be assessed.
Important Alarm Regulations
- Failure to obtain a permit is a misdemeanor.
- Alarm permits are not transferable.
- Alarm users are allowed 3 free false alarm incidents per calendar year. After the third, penalties apply. See the complete Alarm Overview below for the fee schedule.
- Permits are valid for one calendar year, and must be renewed by January 31st of each year.
- If any information furnished on the application changes, the alarm user must notify the alarm coordinator in writing within 30 days of the change.
- Notification is also required if an alarm monitoring service is discontinued.
