Animal Services
Animal Services is a no-kill shelter serving the community of Kansas City, KS.
Our services include:
- Pick up of stray, deceased, sick and/or injured domesticated pets
- Animal bite investigations
- Investigation of animal cruelty and neglect cases related to domesticated pets
Our shelter operates as a managed intake facility, which means we can only accept animals according to kennel capacity regulations established by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, along with best practice guidelines set forth by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians for Standards of Care.
Please, do not be alarmed or upset if our staff advises you of other options for the stray such as:
- Contacting other local shelters
-
Posting the animal on social media such as Nextdoor, Wyandotte County Lost and Found Pets on Facebook and PawBoost
- Providing temporary shelter while joining our stray waitlist so that we may call you as soon as we have space to intake the animal
Based on our availability, we might also be able to help you by providing pet food for temporary care of the animal. We appreciate your patience and willingness to work with us as we try to save as many animals as possible.
Each year Animal Services responds to approximately 5,000 calls for service with an intake of 2,000 pets. In order to more effectively manage high intake numbers, Animal Services has developed strong working relationships with a number of established pet fosters, trappers, rescues and adoption programs in the region. A complete list and links are provided in the resource section below.
Animal Services is not equipped to respond to calls associated with wildlife such as raccoons, birds, bats, opossums, etc. Those concerns should be directed to Operation Wildlife at (785) 542-3625 or visit their website at owl-online.org for helpful information. Please, be cautious when approaching any sick, injured or orphaned wild animal. Handling a wild animal can be dangerous to you and harmful for the animal. For issues related to wildlife infestations such as bats in an attic, please contact a reputable, local exterminator that specializes in wildlife.
