Free firearm cable locks are available to the public during regular business hours at the following locations:
- KCKPD Headquarters, 700 Minnesota Ave.
- East Patrol, 849 N. 47th St.
- South Patrol, 2200 Metropolitan Ave.
Residents can request a gun lock at any time by going to the front desk at each location. Gun locks are also available at KCKPD sponsored engagement events such as the Annual Peace Walk, Division Open Houses and Saturday in the Park.
Responsible gun owners make sure all guns are both safe and secure. Safe means unloaded, and secure means locked up. Not only do locks help prevent deadly accidents, but also serve to to provide critical life-saving moments between impulse and ACTION for those considering taking their own life.
The long braided steel cable is stuck down the ejection port and down the magazine well of the gun. The end of the cord fits into the large padlock with a key used to secure the device. Since 2005, if you purchase a gun in the United States, you're going to be given a free gun lock. It's a federal law.
If you have a gun in your home with no lock, please pick up one of these free locks - no questions asked!
