Step 2.Check Our Shelter 

Check the 24Petconnect website to view animals located and currently at a shelter. This is the best way to see if your pet has been located and who to connect with. 

Step 3.Make a Report 

If you do not find your pet at a shelter using 24Petconnect, the next step is to make a report. 

Please email right away. This is the best way for us to get into contact with you.

Step 1.Capture and Contain with Care

If you find a stray cat or dog, try to contain the animal if circumstances permit. Always approach stray animals slowly and cautiously while speaking in a calm, gentle voice. You can also use food to coax a frightened animal into approaching you. Try not the scare or chase the animal when around traffic as this will sometimes result in the animal running into traffic and becoming injured.
Most cats do not like to be held for any length of time, so stray kitties are best confined inside a cat carrier, secure box (with air holes), small room of your house or temporarily in your car (as long as the car is well ventilated and not too hot).

Step 2.Check for ID

 Once you have contained the lost pet, check to see if the animal is wearing an ID tag. If so, you may be able to immediately contact the owner and return the pet to her or him. If the pet is not wearing an ID tag, it should be scanned for a microchip. Animal Services, veterinarians and local rescue groups will scan pets free of charge. If the animal is chipped, they will be able to locate the owner’s contact information by calling the microchip company or accessing the microchip database online.  

Step 3.E-mail Us

 Make sure to provide a description of the animal, when and where (cross streets) you found the pet. Due to the large number of strays in our community, Animal Services may not have space to take in the pet. In those instances, they may ask you to continue caring for the animal until a spot becomes available. In most cases, small dogs and cats may only take a few days, but placement for larger breed may take several weeks.

Step 4.Post to Social Media & Make Fliers 

Make sure to include neighborhood groups/associations, rescue organizations, etc. Be sure to include the cross streets where you found the pet, time of day and contact information where you can be easily reached. Don't forget to monitor the post to answer questions and update when the pet is reunited with its owners. Not everyone is on social media so posting fliers in the area may also prove to be key in locating the owner. We are a culturally diverse community where many languages are spoken, so include a photo of the pet to make identification easier.
