The Bureau of Operations goal is to provide the highest level of professional service to the citizens and guest of Kansas City, Kansas. Primarily by working in partnership with the community to facilitate safe and livable neighborhoods.  This goal involves a collective effort of working with community and departmental stakeholders to enhance and preserve life by legally identifying, disrupting, and dismantling the elements that facilitate crime. Through this collaborate with our stakeholders we seek to promote the proactive, efficient, effective, and professional delivery of police service throughout Kansas City, Kansas.  This commitment to our community is centered on doing all we can, in partnership, to make Kansas City, Kansas a great and safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

The Bureau of Operations is the largest Bureau within the Police department, spanning approximately 125 square miles within Kansas City, Kansas, with over 225 sworn officers serving a population of approximately 150,000 citizens and guest.  The Bureau of Operations responsibility involves, but is not limited to, emergency call response, proactive crime prevention initiative implementation, emergency management collaboration, uniformed preventive patrol, SWAT response, school resource officer initiatives, K-9 service, traffic enforcement, animal shelter management, illegal narcotic interdiction, alarm system administration, community policing functions, and community event support. With an operating budget of approximately $23 million dollars in taxpayer allocated funding, the Executive Director of Police Operations (Deputy Chief), oversees the management of these diverse departmental operational components in coordination with the vision, goals, objectives, and direction set forth by the Chief of Police.
