The Services Bureau has four divisions: They are the Community and Support Services Division, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Technical Services Division and the Executive Officer. The Executive Officer of the Services Bureau reports directly to Deputy Chief Jerry Campbell.

The duties of the Executive Officer include overseeing the daily operation of the Services Bureau and directly commanding the
Selective Crime Occurrence Reduction and Enforcement Unit (S.C.O.R.E.), Narcotics and Narcotics Unit. The Executive Officer assists in formulating, recommending and carrying out the police department’s mission, goals and policies, directs community and public relations, recommends appointments or dismissals, manages and controls daily business and commands the Units.

The Executive Officer of the Services Bureau is commanded by Major Doug Hansen.

The S.C.O.R.E. Unit handles all hostage incidents, barricaded individuals, as well as the execution of all high risk Search Warrants.

Taskforce Detectives/Officers: Several members of the Unit are assigned to various Federal taskforces, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to name a few. The taskforce officers focus on federal violators who reside primarily in or commit crimes in Kansas City, Kansas. The taskforce officers interact daily with all police departmental personnel as well as their assigned federal agency.

Since its inception, the Narcotics Unit has proven to be a valuable unit to the Police Department. The Narcotics Unit has consistently seized large amounts of narcotics and firearms and has been instrumental in targeting and incarcerating violent offenders and assisting the department with reducing violent crime.

Police Canines: Police Canines serve as a support function to all areas of the Police Department’s drug enforcement activities detecting and identifying controlled substances. They also aid in locating lost or missing persons in emergency situations and they protect officers and citizens in building searches.

A recent addition to the team is an EOD trained canine team that is used to detect explosives and / or gunpowder.

Security Guard-Permits
New Applicants and Renewals
Listed below are the requirements for issuing of security guard permits:

UN-ARMED SECURITY GUARDS
1. Completed application form provided by security business
2. Letter of Intent from employer which states whether person will be armed or un-armed
3. State certified picture identification with current address (Drivers License or State ID Card)
4. $50 fee for two (2) year permit

ARMED SECURITY GUARDS
5. 21 years of age
6. Firearms Qualification: Applicant must qualify with same make, model and caliber of firearm the guard will carry while employed. A statement of qualification from one of the approved ranges must be presented at the time of application for armed permit. QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE RENEWED ANNUALLY
7. Firearm Registered: Firearm must be presented (unloaded) to the security booth at the time of application
8. Firearm Test: Applicant must pass a written test covering firearm safety and use. This will be given at the time of application. Note: If applicant has taken the test previously and it is still on file, he/she will not be required to take the test again
9. $50 fee for two (2) year permit


TRANSFERS
*** From one company to another and permit has not expired ***

From Un-Armed to Armed:
10. Requirements for armed as stated above
11. $50 fee
12. Letter of release from previous employer
13. Letter of intent from new employer

From Armed to Un-Armed:
14. Same requirements as unarmed above and it is only a $10 transfer fee. If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please contact our office at (913) 573-6280. Also be advised and explain to your employees that this office has up to 20 days to process their application. THERE IS NO OVERNIGHT GUARANTEE.
